Federal Mail Fraud Criminal Defense Attorney In Los Angeles &

What is Mail Fraud?

Fraudulent misrepresentations and schemes to defraud someone using the United States mail as a means to further that fraudulent conduct can be prosecuted as mail fraud.  Mail fraud is charged in a federal court due to the fact that the United States mail system is being used to perpetrate the crime.  Although previously the statutes required only the U.S. mail to be used in order to charge someone with mail fraud, currently using any mail carrier to attempt fraud is considered "mail fraud".

Mail fraud involves numerous types of crimes, almost always financial in nature.  They commonly involve making misrepresentations or false statements in order to coerce money out of the unsuspecting person. Almost any type of fraud, if the use of the mail, interstate wire, radio or television is used, can be charged as mail fraud. This allows the federal courts to have jurisdiction in almost all fraud cases.   The use of the mail may not be the main focus of the scheme, but merely secondary to the overall scheme.
